Privacy

We take your privacy very seriously. As a thumb rule, we don't collect ANY data that is not vital for making things to work in Jambattle. In data handling, we follow guidelines of Directive of Data Protection of the European Union and apply the same rules world wide.

The background system is based on wonderful Laravel framework, which provides a robust and secure technology for web applications. Jambattle utilises widely Laravel's security architecture and provides a non-breakable, non-hackable system that keeps your data safe. Read more about Laravel security.

Here's a list of data items and handling procedures related to users:

Jambattle Account Information

  • User name
  • Can be your real name or nickname
  • Email address
  • Email address is never shown to other users or handed over to any 3rd parties. It's needed for identifying registered users and sending Jambattle related information to users. In your profile settings you can select which information you want to get from Jambattle. However, regardless of the settings, we may send occasionally some important information to users about Jambattle new features, maintenance breaks etc. Though this shouldn't happen too often, normally max once per month.
  • Password
  • Password is encrypted with bcrypt mechanism before storing to database, so even the administrators can't read it.
  • Country, city and region
  • During registration the system uses geoPlugin service to locate a user based on IP address. This gives a rough estimate (typically in ~25 miles or ~40 kilometers) of user's location. Based on this, country, city and region information is saved. User can modify this information in profile settings.
  • Longitude, latitude
  • Jambattle uses geoPlugin service to save user's location (longitude and latitude) to the database. Again, the information is not accurate location but a rough estimate based on IP address. This information will be used in future extensions. Note! We don't store actual IP addresses permanently to the system.
  • Other user profile information
  • User may add more personal information in Profile page, which is stored to the database and showed e.g. in Artist page.

Social Account Information

This covers Facebook, Twitter, Google and other 3rd party accounts used for logging in to the system. Below is the list of information that Jambattle collects and stores when signing in with any of these services.

  • User name
  • User name stored in 3rd party service. A user can change the name in profile settings.
  • Email address
  • Email stored in 3rd party service. Again, we will NEVER expose email addresses to other users or 3rd parties. Furthermore, user can change the email address stored in Jambattle database.
  • Social ID
  • This is an identification string (typically a long string of numbers) that identifies you when you login again using the same service.
  • Social avatar
  • An URL link to an avatar image in 3rd party service

Cookies

As most of the web applications, we also use cookies for storing some data. However, to make things more secure, user session data is encrypted and stored in server side.

System logs

To be able to support users, trouble shoot technical issues and develop the platform, we collect some additional visitor data and statistics in temporary log files. This includes user ID:s, referring URL addresses, IP addresses and length of a visit.
